Tooth and Claw : Another fairly nondescript episode basically used as an advert for Torchwood… The only really stand out bits (apart from the cool flying monks at the start) and how unpleasant the off-screen sounds of people being killed were (for what is almost-always pitched as a kid’s program) and the Dr and Rose being banished at the end for "finding it fun"… This does highlight my oft-raised point of numerous people dying in the show and yet, more often than not, the Dr and his companion being all smiles by the time the TARDIS demateralises… By normal standards Rose, if not the Dr, should be suffering from PTSD half the time and while, obviously, that wouldn’t make for much of a show it would be good if this person who is famed for her empathy showed some kind of impact from people being horribly killed all around her…

School Reunion: Difficult to comment on this one as Sarah-Jane was the definitive companion for me as far as the ‘original’ series is concerned. Still, can see why Liz Sladen got a series to herself – she’s excellent in this episode, such a shame we didn’t see her in more things in the intervening years. Great central plot idea, the Dr being nice to Mickey, the start of Rose catching on that the Dr’s not actually in love with her (like she is with him), the Dr continuing to generally be funny and cool, good SFX for the monsters. Yes, small children being eaten for limited plot gain and, yes, K9 still as silly as ever but overall pretty damn good.
