One hot topic that keeps coming up in things I read a lot recently is bleeding into the real world. I.e. partly how it is now far more ‘normal’ to be a Farmville (or Happy Farm) player than it ever was to be a Quake player but more that using "points" in the real world in everything from store loyalty cards upwards is already influencing how many people shop but in the future may frequently change how we act in many situations.

This started off with the video from Seth Priebatch at Dice 2010 about the Gamepocalypse (his term) and the associated blog. This was followed but with his talk at TED and also one from Jane McGonigal (who believes game playing can have a very positive influence on people).

Most recently there was an article in Fortune magazine. This is already well under way – expect to see more of it real soon now.
