Not of the TV kind this time (which is getting much better again in season 3 – if only they’d listen to me and kill off Peter) but an actual real new hero of mine. This time it’s Peter Diamandis who, apart from getting undergrad and postgrad degrees in aeronautics and an MD from Harvard and setting up more than a dozen companies and organisations, is the founder of the X-Prize organisation.

It wasn’t until I listened to his SALT lecture (MP3) that I realised how incredibly influential the X-Prize organisation has been. Not only with it’s own prizes but also in convincing other groups to set up similar schemes for private funding of prizes for innovation.

Have a look on his SALT page for a list of things that could be up for prizes next.
