Westminster: Anger as MPs reject reforms to expenses and limit pay rises – we remain unsurprised.

Church of England crisis: Mass defections loom as rebel faction appeals to English clergy – this is interesting only in as much as I bet the congregations of the those who are thinking of defecting to the conservative Gafcon organisation are leaning towards old. By quite deliberately putting themselves against what are commonly held current ways of thinking the church stands only to loose more members in the long run.
US removes its nuclear arms from Britain – who would ever have thought we’d see the day… Of course we’re still spending billions to replace Trident…

Krauss on Ignorant School Boards – I don’t know how school governors system works here, if you need to have kids at the school for example…

User Charged With Felony For Using Fake Name On MySpace – this is actually the woman-next-door who pretended to be her neighbour’s daughter’s online boyfriend and then “dumped” her causing the girl to commit suicide. Obviously they are trying to nail her with something but this is absurd and setting an extremely bad precident. Even if it goes down, which I doubt, it’s bound to get overturned on appeal.

Google Trends vs. Community Standards On Obscenity – This is just great. Obscenity trials in the US depend of what is the cultural norm in the local vacinity. The prosicution said that the local area was all clean god-fearing folks but it turns out that their google searches prove otherwise…

Kuznicki on “Curing” Homosexuality in the Womb – this is an incredably difficult one that is going to start coming up regularly in the not-too-distant future. If you can pick an embryo that hasn’t inherited congenetal deafness most people agree it makes sense to do so. Picked for gender is assumed, by most, to be one selection too far. However, if you want to pick one that isn’t homosexual (assuming for now that they nail down the exact genes at some point) would it be acceptable to do so if the parents so wished?
