BIONIC has been around for a while. It’s the infrastructure for mass distributed computation systems such Seti@Home and Folding@Home. Now it’s rather cleverly being expanded to co-ordinate mass distributed efforts requiring human input – such as the proof reading done by the Project Gutenberg.

Another statement of how many people live today – Dopplr is a new site for people that consistently travel. You put in your itinerary and it tells you which of your friends (also on the system) will be in the same places at the same time.
