Benjamin Franklin said:

“When a religion is good, I conceive it will support itself; and when it does not do so, and God chooses not to do so, so that its professors are obliged to call for the help of the civil power, ’tis a sign, I apprehend, of its being a bad one.”

When a meme is strong it will live on despite of what the state and popular opinion state (think Copernicus) and ‘weak’ memes (such as religion – defined by me as weak since they do not stand up to scrutiny) only continue to exist due to extensive support by powerful bodies using the language of fear to push their PoV.

Do people think this is a fair comment?
